LeBron James Innovation Center at Nike World Headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon. The Nike project included acoustical design for the Nike Sport Research Lab (NSRL) to support research, development and testing, a running track, full-sized basketball court and partial soccer pitch, and a 100-meter, 15.63% incline ramp on the facility’s exterior.
This 750,000 sq. ft. building on Nike’s headquarters campus is the heart of Nike’s continuous research and development of new products and materials.
The 84,000 sq. ft. Nike Sport Research Lab (NSRL) on the top floor boasts a full-size NBA basketball court, a 200-meter track, a 1/3 size regulation soccer field with artificial turf, and an outside 500 ft. inclined ramp to simulate running up and down hills. This part of the building serves as a data collection laboratory with 400 motion-capture cameras and 97 force plates, the largest array of both in the world, which provide force and motion measurements of athletes competing in their sports.
With data generated in the NSRL, the research and development of apparel and products mission of the center is completed by a staff of approximately 700 specialists in biomechanics, research robotics, computational design, and patent development.
Our Role
BRC provided design for reverberant sound control, sound isolation, and mechanical noise control as appropriate for the NSRL, private offices, meeting rooms, photo studio, and open plan offices, as well as spaces for concept creation, pattern & materials cutting, grinding, industrial embroidery, and machine repair.
