Our Role
BRC provided design for sound isolation, reverberant sound control, and mechanical noise control throughout the new and renovated buildings, including classrooms, commons/cafeteria, offices and counseling, gymnasium, stage, and media center.
As noted above, the location of the gym over the media center posed a serious acoustical challenge. To address this situation, BRC undertook extraordinary measures including:
- Specifying a raised gym floor with spring isolation from the structural concrete slab and the walls.
- Locating and escorting the architect and school district representatives to observe an identical gym floor with a sensitive vertical adjacency at a school in Boston, MA.
- Providing detailed inspections and collaboration during installation with the architect, the general contractor, and the gym floor installers in isolating the noise of the gym from the media center below.
As a result, both the gym and media center are acoustically compatible with space usage.
